Alienware x51 Gaming Desktop is Small, Upgradable

The latest machine to surface wearing the Alienware name is the new X51. The X51 is a small from factor gaming rig that looks small enough to slip into an entertainment center and not take up too much space for some gaming on the big screen in the living room.

There are a number of options for the X51, including desktop graphics cards that provide serious gaming muscle. The machine can be fitted with an NVIDIA GTX 555 video card and up to an Intel Core i7-2600 processor. Dell designed the machine to be usable on its side or sitting on its bottom to fit better in the space available.

Inside the small chassis, the hardware can be upgraded down the road, as more performance is needed. The X51 can be fitted with a Blu-ray drive for watching movies with 7.1 surround sound available. Connectivity includes HDMI 1.4a ports for 3D movies and TV content. The machine also has USB 3.0 ports. Dell also fits the computer with three customizable light zones for bling and the case is black with chrome trim for style.

The standard processor offerings include Intel Core i3 dual-core parts, and Intel Core i5 processors are available as well. The standard video card option is a GeForce GT 545 with 1GB of GDDR5. Buyers can opt for up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and 4GB of RAM is standard. Storage is to a 1TB 7200 RPM HDD.

The power supply by default is a 250W unit and an optional 330W PSU is available. The X51 measures 13.5-inches H x 3.74-inches W x 12.52-inches D and the machine weighs 12.1-pounds in base configuration.

The X51 starts at $699 and goes up from there depending on options.
