Amazon Studios Searches for Original Comedy, Children’s Series

Amazon Studios has announced that it is looking to develop original series’ for Amazon Instant Video.

Amazon Studios, an online movie development process, is looking for writers, animators, producers, etc. to create original comedy and children’s series ideas for Amazon Instant Video.

“Amazon Studios wants to discover great talent and produce programming that audiences will love,” said Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios. “In the course of developing movies, we’ve heard a lot of interest from content creators who want to develop original series in the comedy and children’s genres. We are excited to bring writers, animators and directors this new opportunity to develop original series.”

Amazon is encouraging potential show creators to submit their material in the form of a five-page description. For comedies, content creators must submit a 22-minute script. Those submitting children’s show ideas must have an 11-minute script.

From there, Amazon Studios will either extend an option on the project for $10,000 45 days after submission or have the creator add his/her project to the Amazon Studios website.

If the show is chosen as a full-budget series, the content creator will receive $55,000 and as much as 5 percent of Amazon’s net receipts from product licensing and other royalties.

Amazon Studios seems to be following in Netflix’s footsteps with original programming in hopes of encouraging potential subscribers to jump onboard their services. Earlier this year, Netflix announced its first two original programs, “House of Cards” and “Lilyhammer.”
