Anyone out there who is using an older version of the iPhone and wants an upgrade will likely want to venture into an Apple store this week. Apple is reportedly holding a massive iPhone event in stores to help boost sales of the iPhone 5c and 5s.
Well-connected sources for 9to5 Mac indicate that the event will start on May 8 and that Apple will be contacting eligible users with older iPhones via email and inviting them into a local store to purchase newer iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C smartphones.
The source claims that Apple is expecting the sort of traffic to stores with the upgrade program that it normally sees with new device launches. Other marketing ploys are also said to be in the works to improve sales of the iPhone.
Sales of the iPhone aren’t exactly slumping (Apple sold a record number of iPhones in fiscal Q2 2014), but Apple is looking for another sales bump ahead of the launch of the iPhone 6.
However, this upgrade has us thinking that Apple must be offering some enticing discounts to encourage early upgrades to hardware that is nearly a year old (or in the case of the iPhone 5c, nearly two years old). After all, if customers have waited this long to upgrade their older iPhones, they might as well wait to see what the iPhone 6 offers instead of running to the Apple Store early with money in hand.
